What's it like

In Mallorca, right now.

Mallorca in peak summer — 30°C and dazzling. Palma's old town empties at midday; the locals retreat to terraces with horchata. Skies stay dry through the day. Head north to the Tramuntana mountains or find a shaded cove beach for the afternoon.

Common questions

What are the best months to visit Mallorca?
May-June and September-October. Warm (20-28°C), Mediterranean perfect, sea swimmable, fewer crowds. May is the sweet spot — wildflowers, mild weather, almond blossoms still possible, prices half of August. September has the warmest sea (24°C) and Catalan harvest. Avoid July-August: 30-35°C+, packed beaches, prices triple. November-April is mild (12-18°C) — hikers love it, beach-goers should look elsewhere. Many beach restaurants close November-March.
What should I pack for Mallorca?
Beach-and-mountain combo. Summer: lightweight clothing, swimwear (bring two — one always damp), sandals plus real walking shoes (the Serra de Tramuntana is hiking country), sun hat, UV sunglasses, high SPF. The interior gets 5°C hotter than the coast; cotton long sleeves help in midday sun. For evenings: light layer, the breeze off the Mediterranean cools things. October requires a real jumper for evenings. Bring a small daypack for water and snacks if hiking.
How warm is the Mediterranean around Mallorca?
Peaks at 26°C in August, 24°C in September (the locals' favourite swimming month). June is 22°C — pleasant for adults, cold for kids. October stays 22°C; November drops to 19°C. The northern coast (Cala San Vicente, Formentor) is slightly cooler and rougher; southern coves (Cala d'Or, Cala Mondragó) are warmer and calmer. May at 18°C is invigorating but cold for most. Strong undertow at some northern coves; check flag systems.
When is the wind strong on Mallorca?
March-April and October-November bring the strongest winds — the Tramuntana from the north, the Llevant from the east. Can hit 60-80 km/h for 2-3 days. Effects: sailing trips cancelled, north coast beaches dangerous, hiking exposed routes unsafe. Summer months are mostly calm with a daily sea breeze (Embat) that picks up around midday — useful for sailors, harmless for everyone else. Check AEMET forecasts before booking boat trips. The wind is the reason Mallorca's almond trees lean.
